NECK PAIN
Research has shown that up to 70% of people will suffer with neck pain at some stage in their life. In about 5% of those who suffer from this will significantly impact their daily lives.
Your neck is a complex interlocking structure that consists of bones, joints, ligaments, nerves and tendons. Each of these structures may result in the cause of pain.
The causes of neck pain may vary from those of an acute muscle strain to chronic postural neck pain that is associated with stiffness and muscle weakness.
Depending on the structure of the neck that has been injured, your pain may be localised or may cause referred pain into shoulder and down the upper limb.
Some neck pain may cause some people to suffer with headaches. These type of headaches are known as Cervicogenic headaches. This is when the cause of the headache is due to a tension point that will cause a referred pain into the head. The source of this trigger point is normally found in the neck.
